The Department of Statistics came into existence in the year 1981 with the aim of providing quality education in the field of Statistics; to develop the subject of Statistics with its application and usefulness to the society; to provide qualified and trained statisticians for the economic, social, administrative, planning and academic development of the society.

The students of this department have bright employment opportunities as statistical officers, consultant statisticians software development personal, Field officers in several government, private and public sector organizations in addition to teaching, medical and research institutions.

After its inception, the Department has conducted several Training Programmes for teachers, students and other Professionals who are working as Statisticians in different fields.
