The Department of mathematics came into existence in the year 1969 with the aim of providing quality education in the field of mathematics; to develop the subject of mathematics with its application and usefulness to the society; to provide qualified and trained mathematicians for the scientific ,economic, social and academic development of the society.

The students of this department have bright employment opportunities as statistical officers, software development personal etc in addition to teaching and research institutions.

After its inception, the Department has conducted several Training Programmes for teachers, students and other Professionals who are working as mathematicians in different fields.
