Profile

Established in 1967, the Department of Chemistry has a venerable history as one of the oldest departments of the college. The Post Graduate course in the department was launched in 2001. Adding to the feathers of the department, a Research Center in Chemistry, with a view to promote research interests--both among the students and the teachers of the Department-- was established in the College in 2008. Currently, the Department offers Under-Graduate, Post- Graduate courses and research programmes in the diverse fields of Chemistry. The courses on offer under the BSc programme and MSc programme, such as Theoretical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Nano Chemistry and Physical Chemistry forge a path through a gamut of theories and concepts and harness a range of theoretical and analytical approaches. The department also offers complimentary courses in to the students of Physics, Botany, Forestry and Zoology departments. Besides these, training in practical skills in lab experiments, projects, community outreach programmes are essential components of the life of the department. The Research in the Department spans across such various fields as computational chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry. The Department has eight members of faculty, out of which 2 are research guides. The extra-and co-curricular interface between students and faculty in such platforms as the Chemistry association are not only some of the avenues where the extra/co-curricular lives of the students and faculty take shape, but are also active and valued part of the teaching-learning experience of the department. A strong mentoring programme, which equips the students to pursue their higher studies and goals in prestigious institutions, is followed by the department to train and help students to pursue their higher studies and research in and outside the state.

Vision

Vision

The Department of Chemistry at Sir Syed college endeavours, and is committed, to the pursuit of excellence in higher education by providing quality training and research guidance in Chemistry through innovative and quality methods of teaching, learning and researching for producing the best minds of the future in the field of chemistry. The research division of the vision of the department prioritises cutting- edge projects and publications in the field of Chemistry. The experienced faculty and research guides in the department strive to create dynamic and collaborative learning environment by promoting academic exchanges and short-term research projects outside the institute.

Mission
