Profile

Established at the inception of the college in 1967, the department introduces the learners to the novel developments in the field of English Language and literature. The Under Graduate programme B A Functional English was started in 1998 under Kannur University. The programme includes Media Studies, Film Studies, Writing Skills, Literary Theory, English Language Teaching and Translation Studies. Complementary course in Journalism provides opportunities for the interested students to pursue Journalism as a career.

The department is committed to equip learners as employable individuals to meet the ever-growing demands of the job market.

We help students build knowledge of the English language and literature. We are committed to an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and cater to courses like ICT, Theatre Studies, Film Studies, Gender Studies and Environmental Studies. Our graduates aim themselves for professional and postgraduate study and look forward to lifelong learning. They pursue career in education, research, business, law, journalism, publishing and government jobs.

Objectives

The course aims to prepare students for diverse linguistic challenges, enabling them to navigate a wide range of communication scenarios with confidence and competence.
