'Read, Voice for Your Basic Rights' : Nikhila Vimal

In an engaging and thought-provoking session, renowned film actress Nikhila Vimal interacted with students of Sir Syed College as part of the Department of Journalism's 'Talk with a Celebrity' program. The event, aimed to inspire young minds and emphasize the importance of reading and fighting for women's basic needs. Nikhila Vimal, known for her outspoken nature, shared valuable insights and experiences with students from various departments. The interactive session was met with enthusiasm and excitement, providing a unique opportunity for students to engage with the celebrated actress. Addressing the gathering, Nikhila Vimal stressed, "Reading is the foundation of knowledge and empowerment. It's crucial to voice our concerns and fight for our basic rights, especially for women." The program was attended by esteemed college officials, including College Manager Ad.P Mahamood, Principal Dr. Ismail Olayikkara, CDMEA Secretary Mahamood Allamkulam, IQAC Secretary Dr. Tajo Abraham, Rusa Coordinator Dr. A K Abdul Salam, Union Chairperson Fida Majeed, and Head of the Department of Journalism V H Nishad. Asiya Sibgath, Faculty of Journalism, proposed vote of thanks.

The Department of Journalism at Sir Syed College organized a one-day workshop on July29, 2024 for its students, focusing on the crucial topics of fact-checking and visual verification. The workshop was led by Harikrishnan Bhaskaran, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh. Professor, known for his expertise in media ethics and verification techniques, provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the importance of fact-checking in today’s media landscape.
