LOGO LAUNCHING – NEWS PAPER

Taliparamba, February 14, 2025 – The Journalism Department of Sir Syed College launched its campus news paper, 'The Sirsyedian,' with the logo unveiled by CDMEA General Secretary Mahmood Allamkulam. Journalism head V.H. Nishad, along with student representatives Fajas, Ayush, Safreena, Saniya, and Asna, attended the event.

Valentine's Day event

The Department of Journalism at Sir Syed College, Taliparamba, in collaboration with Sir Syed Beats, is organised a Valentine's Day event on 14th February 2025, themed "Writing Love Letters | Talk about Untold Love." Participants can submit love letters digitally or through a letterbox near the Journalism Department and also record their experiences at the Multimedia Studio. The event aims to encourage creative expression through words and storytelling.

World Radio Day

Sir Syed College’s Journalism Department celebrated World Radio Day on February 13th, highlighting radio’s significance. The event featured interactive sessions, live music, and student-led discussions. Sir Syed Beats, the campus radio, engaged students and faculty through broadcasts and interviews. The celebration emphasized radio’s relevance today, encouraging student participation. Future plans include industry guest talks, live interviews, and student-led radio programs.

Master class on "News Anchoring"

The Department of Journalism at Sir Syed College, Taliparamba, conducted a master class on "News Anchoring" on February 13, 2025, at 3 PM in the TV Production Studio. The session was led by Shiju Kannan, a former broadcast journalist, who shared valuable insights and practical knowledge on the art of news anchoring. Attendees gained firsthand experience and learned essential techniques from an industry expert. The event provided aspiring journalists with a deeper understanding of the profession, enhancing their skills for a future in broadcast media.

Handover of Little Magazine Collection to Journalism Department

On February 13, 2025, VS Anil Kumar handed over a valuable collection of little magazines to the Department of Journalism. The collection was received by Department Head VH Nishad, along with faculty members Ladeed KP and Asiya Sibghath, and students Rezin Rafeeq and Mohammed Hadi Thameem. This contribution is expected to serve as a significant resource for students and researchers, offering insights into diverse socio-political and literary movements. The department expressed its gratitude to VS Anil Kumar for his generous donation, which will enhance academic discussions and research in journalism.

Thaliparamba, February 4, 2025 – The Journalism Department of Sir Syed College launched its campus television channel, 'S S Darshan,' with the logo unveiled by College Manager Adv. P. Mahmood. Faculty members Muhammad Niyas O., Asiya Sibghath, and V.H. Nishad, along with student representatives Fajaz, Abdul Samad, Murshid, Rezin Shafabi, Reeha Samra, Fayisa, and Asna, attended the event. This initiative marked a significant step in campus media, providing students with practical experience in journalism, broadcasting, and media production.

RADIO LOGO LAUNCHING

Thaliparamba, February 1, 2025 – The Journalism Department of Sir Syed College launched its campus radio, ‘Sir Syed Beats,’ to enhance student engagement in media and broadcasting. Principal Mr. Ismail Olayikkara unveiled the logo, which was received by Journalism Association Secretary Fajaz. The event was attended by faculty members Asiya Sibghath, Muhammad Ladeed, Muhammad Niyas O., and V.H. Nishad, along with student representatives. The Department of Journalism, Sir Syed College, Taliparamba, in collaboration with Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Angadikadavu, organized the Second Semester FYUGP Orientation Workshop on 10 January 2025 for journalism faculty members. The workshop aimed to enhance faculty expertise in curriculum implementation, innovative teaching methodologies, industry trends, and assessment strategies. Expert-led interactive sessions facilitated knowledge sharing and skill development, fostering academic collaboration between institutions. Thaliparamba, January 8, 2025 – The Journalism Department of Sir Syed College, through its Art-Literature-Cultural Collective ‘Vyayavattam,’ is organising a memorial event to honor M.T. Vasudevan Nair on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 1 PM in the college seminar hall. The event will feature tributes from various perspectives, including cinema, literature, academia, and writing, with insights from Vijesh Vishwam, Dr. Binu Mol P. Kuriakose, Navaz Mannan, and V.H. Nishad. The program aims to celebrate M.T.’s profound contributions to Malayalam literature and cinema.

On November 28, 2024, students from Sir Syed College's Department of Journalism visited Makthab Press near Kakkathod Bus Stand, Taliparamba. Led by editor K. Sunilkumar, the visit offered insights into news collection, editing, and publishing processes. On November 20, 2024, BMMC students visited the Akashavani Radio Station in Kannur. The visit provided students with valuable insights into the operations of a prominent radio station. They toured the newsroom, broadcasting studios, and control room, observing live broadcasts and learning about radio production, from scriptwriting to sound mixing. Students interacted with radio jockeys and news anchors, gaining practical knowledge about engaging audiences and delivering content. In December 2023, students from the 2021-24 batch of the Department of Journalism at Sir Syed College, Thaliparamba, embarked on a transformative media journey across Pune, Mumbai, and Goa. The itinerary included immersive visits to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, where students gained firsthand experience in film production and media education. At World Peace University in Pune, discussions focused on peace journalism, highlighting the role of media in fostering peaceful communication. In Goa, students explored the Goa Central Library, delving into its cultural and literary treasures, deepening their understanding of regional heritage. These visits provided invaluable insights into film, journalism, peace communication, and cultural preservation, enriching students’ experiential learning and broadening their perspectives on media and cultural diversity.

On February 25, 2022, Sir Syed College's Department of Journalism celebrated the book release of "SMS Biriyan¬i" authored by V.H. Nishad and released by V.S. Anil Kumar. COMMEMORATION DAY OF LATA MANGESHKAR

The Department of Journalism at Sir Syed College, Taliparamba, held a Commemoration Day for Lata Mangeshkar (1929-2022) on February 8, 2022. Recognized as the Nightingale of India, Lataji's multifaceted contributions to music were celebrated during the event from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm near the English Department. The event aimed to honour her lasting impact and extraordinary musical career.

On February 8, 2022, Sir Syed College's Department of Journalism hosted the promotional event for the movie "Slomanta Thenichakal". “VYAZHAVATTOM” ONLINE READING CELEBRATION

From June 25 to June 30, 2020, Vyazhavattom, a cultural-literary fraternity under the Department of Journalism, organized 'Kandinaa.. Kettinaa.. Vayichinaa..', a week-long online reading celebration. The program was inaugurated by noted Malayalam writer Sr. Santhosh Aechikkanam. Participants including Abdul Salam (poet), V Dileep (writer), Syam Sudhakar (poet), Jisa Jose (critic), TB Lal (short story writer), and MP Pavitra (poet) presented various literary forms, enriching the cultural landscape of the event.

International Webinar: 'Mainstream Media Reporting During Covid-19: an International Experience

On May 22, 2020, as part of the international webinar series organized by Sir Syed College, the Department of Journalism collaborated with IQAC to host Doctrina—04. The seminar focused on 'Mainstream Media Reporting During Covid-19: An International Experience' and featured Ms. Sajila Saseendran, Senior Reporter at Gulf News, Dubai, as the resource person. The event attracted 516 registrations from 18 states and four countries, with 200 participants actively engaging in the seminar.
