The Department of Chemistry at Sir Syed College organized a conference titled "CHEMIA" on highlighting the excellence in MSc internship achievements by fourth semester students. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Binumole P. Kuriakose, Principal In-Charge of Sir Syed College. Ms. Muhammed Sayeed T, Head of the Chemistry Department, presided over the function. Dr. Ashwini Kumar N coordinated the event, ensuring its smooth execution. Faculty members and students from the department actively participated in the program. The conference provided a platform for students to present their internship experiences and achievements.
Alumni Interaction Program
On June 27, 2024, the Department of Chemistry at Sir Syed College organized an insightful interaction session for our final year BSc Chemistry students. Our esteemed alumni, Muhammad Rishad, who completed his BSc Chemistry degree from 2019 to 2022, shared his professional journey and current role as an Assistant Chemist at Qualitas Material Testing Laboratories in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He provided valuable insights into the various job opportunities available in laboratories and the essential skills required for these roles.
Felicitation to Fifth Semester BSc Chemistry students
A felicitation program for the 4th semester A+/A grade holders of the 2022-25 BSc Chemistry batch was conducted. The event was coordinated by Shahabanu P(Tutor). The Head of the Department, Muhammad Sayeed T, along with Dr. Aswin, Dr. Rajeena, and Dr. Fasila, participated in the event. Prizes were distributed to the achievers, recognizing their hard work and dedication. The program celebrated the academic excellence of the students, motivating them to continue their pursuit of knowledge and success.
Parents Meeting
A Class PTA meeting for the final year BSc Chemistry 2022-25 batch was conducted. The meeting was organized and led by the class tutor, Shahabanu P. The Head of the Chemistry Department, Muhammad Sayeed T, along with faculties Dr. Aswin Kumar and Ms. Sarayu Jayadevan, actively interacted with the parents. Discussions focused on the academic progress, future prospects, and any concerns raised by the parents. The meeting fostered a collaborative environment, ensuring that students receive the support needed for their final year.
Alumni Achievements
The Department of Chemistry at Sir Syed College is delighted to announce the remarkable accomplishments of our alumni, Laila Jabir and Juhina Nisar. Laila Jabir, who completed her MSc in Chemistry from 2021 to 2023, has been selected for a Ph.D. program at the prestigious Centre for Nano Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. Similarly, Juhina Nisar, also an MSc Chemistry graduate from 2021 to 2023, has been admitted to the Ph.D. program at the Department of Sustainable Energy and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
Campus Recruitment Drive' 24
The Department of Chemistry at Sir Syed College, Taliparamba, in association with Molecular Connections Bangalore, conducted a "Campus Recruitment Drive - 24" for postgraduates in Chemistry and Organic Chemistry on July 16, 2024. The program was aimed at recruiting fresh MSc graduates as Scientific Analysts. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ismail Olayikkara, Principal of Sir Syed College, with a warm welcome from Dr. Rajeena Pathoor, the program coordinator. Mr. Muhammad Sayeed T, the Head of the Chemistry Department, presided over the function. Prasath N from the HR department of Molecular Connections explained the job description and placement process, highlighting the roles and responsibilities of the candidates.
Faculty of Sir Syed College Granted with US Patent
Dr. Ashwini Kumar N, Faculty of DST-FIST Funded Dept of PG & Research Studies in Chemistry, Sir Syed College Taliparamba has been granted a US Patent. The invention was regarding the development of a novel lipid nanoparticle formulation for nucleic acid (mRNA) delivery. The patent right will expire in 2039. The technology was transferred to MODERNA THERAPEUTICS, BOSTON, USA.
RADIANT 24 (Recognising Academic Distinction and Intellectual Achievement of Notable Talents)
Department of Post Graduate studies and Research in Chemistry, Sir Syed College organised a programme for falicitating the ahievers on 6th June, 2024. Dr Ismail Olayikkara, Principal, Sir Syed College Inaugurated the function. faculties of the department falicitated the event.
PhD admission at IISC, Bengaluru
Ms. Laila Jabir, 2021-23, MSc Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Sir Syed College, got admission to PhD at Centre for Nano science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
Sports meet 2023-24
BSc Chemistry students who secured the runner-up position in the sports meet 2023-24, showcasing exceptional dedication and skill both in academics and athletics.
SELECTION TO SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
The three national Science Academies offer several two-month Summer Fellowships to enable students/teachers (studying/teaching in India) to work with scientists associated with the three Academies during 2024.
DREAM YOUR PATH
The Department of chemistry organized a career guidance program titled "Dream your path" for chemistry students on February 14, 2024 at 1:45 pm in the seminar hall. the session was conducted by Dr. Ashwani Kumar, who provided invaluable insight into various career paths available to chemistry students.
PTA meeting
The PTA meeting for BSc Chemistry first year students took place on February 7, 2024 at 2.00 pm. Twenty parents actively participated in the meeting discussing various aspects of their children's academic progress and welfare.
"A day with Nobel Laurate"
The "Symphony of Molecules" event, featuring Nobel Laureate Professor Morten Meldal from the University of Copenhagen, captivated attendees at Kannur University on February 10, 2024, starting at 10:30 am. Professor Meldal, renowned for his contributions to chemistry, shared insights into groundbreaking research and innovations in the field. Five students from our department, accompanied by teacher Ashwini Kumar, were among the enthusiastic participants, gaining valuable knowledge and inspiration from the laureate's discourse.
Industrial visit to IIT Dwarka Delhi
An Industrial visit to IIT Dwarka Delhi , was organized by Mohammed Sayeed T, HOD of Chemistry Department on 24th January 2024. 39 students along with 2 professors and 1 lab assistant visited integrated institute of technology Dwarka Delhi.
Alumni interaction
The alumni interaction session with Adhila K P, a certified medical coder at CLARUS Chennai, proved immensely insightful for both PG and UG students. Adhila shared invaluable real-world experiences, offering practical insights into the medical coding field. Her journey from being a student to a successful professional resonated deeply with the current students, inspiring them to strive for excellence in their own careers.

Residential Camp
The Chemistry Association organized a vibrant two-day residential camp on March 19 and 20, 2022, catering to both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students. The event featured a diverse range of activities, including an iftar gathering, engaging games, thrilling adventure experiences, and enjoyable musical performances. The camp not only provided an opportunity for academic interaction but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and fun among the participants, creating a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
