'Fly Safe' Madaipara odonates Conservation for Future Generations

The Biodiversity Club, Department of Zoology, and NSS Unit 14 of Sir Syed College organized the "Fly Safe - Madaypara's Odonates Conservation for Future Generation" on 20th August 2024, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The program aimed to raise awareness about the amazing diversity of odonates, and the critical need to conserve Madaypara, a unique biodiversity hotspot in Kerala. Afsar Nayakan, an expert in fly diversity and a resource person from the Malabar Awareness and Rescue of Wildlife Centre (MARC), led the event. He guided participants in identifying various species of dragonflies and damselflies. The program saw active participation from 25 enthusiastic students and was convened by Safwan, student coordinator, under the supervision of Dr. Mumthaz TMV, the club coordinator. With Afsar's guidance, participants successfully documented around 40 species of dragonflies and damselflies in the Madaypara region. The event underscored the rich biodiversity of this area & highlighted the importance of conservation.
