Sir Syed college, a centre of higher education named after Sir Syed Ahmed Khan to perpetuate the memory of the pioneer of Muslim Educational Movement in India, is committed to the cause of transforming the social fabric of North Malabar through the expansion of the secular educational structure.Sir Syed college was established by the Cannanore District Muslim Education Association (Regd.) in 1967 mainly to impart moral and liberal education to the educationally backward Muslims of north malabar region.The college start functioning as a junior college under the University of Kerala in 1967. Subsequently it came under the university of Calicut in 1968 and under the Kannur university in 1996.The college is situated 2.5 Km east of Taliparamba town and 23 km north east of Kannur town. It is situated on a lovely hillock at Karimbam, the serene atmosphere which is conducive to academic, intellectual and physical pursuits.Sir Syed college has completed 48 years of its glorious existence and is today one of the biggest postgraduate institutions under the Kannur university. It marks a breakthrough in the renaissance of North Malabar Muslims through its excellent performance and remarkable service to the community. The college, at present offers instruction in various disciplines at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.The college and hostels are open to students of all castes and creeds. They also provide amenities for the creation of healthy,cosmopolitan outlook on the campus.The college is accredited at B (CGPA-2.8) level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore.
